AVE - New train connection Almería - Murcía soon

The construction of the AVE high-speed line is in full swing and hopefully soon we will see a train connection between Almeria and Murcía, with a stop in Vera and Lorca. Almería needs connections with other cities of Spain very badly. The airport in Almeria still lacks sufficient flight frequency and for shorter distances people are dependent on bus transport, which is very slow.

Almería is currently connected by train to Granada

  • Distance: 109 Km
  • Travel time: 2 hours 22 minutes
  • Average speed: 46.0 km/h

It can be seen in this picture that coastal cities have worse connections with others. A connection between Almeria and Murcia is obviously needed.

Almería - Murcía

This line, integrated into the Mediterranean high-speed corridor, will connect the city of Almería with the said corridor and also with the Madrid-Castilla La Mancha-Valencian Community-Region Murcia high-speed line.

In this way, Almería's rail connections with Murcia, Levante, Catalonia, Castilla la Mancha and the center of the peninsula will be favored, integrating it into the entire European rail network and reducing travel times.

The Cadímar viaduct with a length of 1,965 meters stands out as a unique work; and the 7,538-meter Sorbas tunnels, which will be the longest in all of Andalusia, surpassing the Abdalajís tunnels on the Córdoba-Málaga high-speed line. Their technical demands are high because they cross an important massif with limestone.

Length: 200 km

Stops: 4 (Almería, Vera, Lorca, Murcía)
